BWM Brown Wire Mod 3rd Gen

So quick question(s)..

2005 Explorer Auto 4x4 with RSC and all Advance Trac or whatever its called.

All I need to do is pull the glove box out, look under the hood, or go to the TC. Locate the Brown wire. Cut it. Put a simple switch in (30amp?) and wire it directly in between where i cut the wire so it will be TC, brown wire, My new wire, Switch, Another new wire, then the original brown wire.

Please correct me if im wrong, im dying to do some burn outs and fish tail around some corners :D

Something like that:D

Just pull out the #17 and #18 fuse from under the hood to do the same thing. A spin here and there should be fine, but covering yourself in a cloud of smoke would cause some problems. So be safe and smart;)

kinda like this...i dont have a ground wire from the tc to really mess with do i?

and if i were to pull those fuses....would i have any lights comin on and blinkin at me? hahaha

If you pull those fuses in an 06 you have the wrench light screaming at you haha im afraid to just pull the fuses...but I dont see how that any different than the BWM? Can someone explain the difference?

The difference is you don't have to cut any wires and mount switches. Plus pulling the fuses are free;)

A switch on the other hand, you can turn the 4x4 auto on and off via the switch. You are basically stopping the signal that tells the 4x4 to activate when you have your new switch turned off. Allowing you to melt your tires(or tire for some:D)

Me, I pull the fuses but do so only when I intend to spin the tires. Otherwise I leave them in the majority of the time because on rainy days, I eat Vettes and crap Vipers:D

haha true. just people say pulling the fuses damages teh transfer case...

The BWM is the same as fuse pulling. Just an easier way(eventually) to turn off the signal to the transfer case.

so the picture of the switch i posted....thats all i need to do the mod right? 10 amp?

does anyone have any evidence that this will increase mileage?

Sounds good. Anyone have any Transfer Case Damage due to the BWM? Or just pulling Fuses?

Just to be safe I would get a 25amp switch or higher and then you shouldn't have any problems.

Not really, at least on later models since the wheels are always spinning the half shafts. But it's nice to have real 2wd and keep the extra wear on the transfer case down.

I've never heard about any damage from the BWM, I couldn't tell you about pulling fuses, people don't usually take that route.

lookin for the brown wire around in the engine compartment...NO IDEA where it is!!! (2005 Ex) Any help? and what size wire? maybe 16 gauge?

and if i just go directly from the TC running 20ft of wire...would that be safe to do?

I have an 05 too and the only place I can locate the wire is at the t-case. I'm reluctant to cut it there as I worry about snow/salt/mud etc really screwing things up. I've been hoping someone with an 05 has done this and found the wire somewhere a little "safer" and will post about it.

i think you would be alright to cut the wire...as long as you tape it up really really really good and tie it off somewhere away the exhaust. Im just reluctant to do it because of the extra amount of wire im going to be using. and i think im going to go with a 14 gauge wire just to be safe and 25amp switch.

any input on this would be awesome!

Is the only spot for the BWM on top of the transfer case on the 4th gen's as well?
