It has been discussed, run a search on this site and you should see them.

The quick answer is to pull the electrical connector from transfer case shift solenoid. That is how Ford disables it when they run a Control Trac equipped Explorer on a 2WD dyno.

Well, i did a search and mine is the only one that comes up. Is disco-ing that plug from the TC the only way? Thanks for any responses.

No, there is a fuse you can pull also. I forgot which one though. When you pull the fuse though, you loose several other things like power windows, inside courtesy lamp, etc. I tried it last year.

um....what if you just disconnect the wires off th eback of the 4WD selector?

If you ran wires from the rear speed sensor to the disconnected front speed sensor wires, the GEM should be reading the exact same speed for what it "thinks" is both front and rear, right?

If that's true you could use the signal from the rear as the signal for both front and rear, which should eliminate the flashing dash lights as the GEM thinks both sensors are working fine and there is never a speed difference.

Someone check my thinking here.

It might work, but would still result in the flashing lights. I remember a while back when someone was doing some work behind their dash. They left the connector off when they put everything back together. They got the flashing lights when they did. Supposedly, whenever the 4x4 lights flash, the GEM puts your system into 2WD mode. The harness at the back of the shift solenoid doesn't require disassembling anything to get to it though.

Ok, I didn;t read throughly. i guess thats what happens when your in a rush.
i would like to know if anyone has an Expedition or access to one to compare the switch on those and the switch on ours. The Exped. has 2WD, 4WD auto, 4WD High, 4WD Low. I would love to get one of those working in my truck. If anyone has any info on this please let me know!

Oh, BTW:
my switch currently has 2WD, 4WD auto and 4WD Low. i know the 98+ explorers have 4WD auto, 4WD High and 4WD low. ANy suggestiones would be great!
