CAI for 4.6L???

Maybe I can borrow it for a run at the strip this fall:D

Yah not a problem man, just give me a heads up. Ill bring my buddy who is really into cars and going to school at pitt state to become a mechanic. He is more into the honda scene but he has a few buddies with pretty quick cars.

My sister and cousin graduated from Pitt State:) I say bring your ex and race me:D

You will beat me as you have more performance mods and I have never been on a track, but I would still be up for it. I actually just got back from Pitt state, I was up there visiting him for the weekend.

You have been at a track the whole time you have been driving:D Like being at a stoplight, light turns green and you hit the gas and haul a**. Gotta try sometime though;)

Wow I love the K&N intake, well worth the $150 I spent. It sounds amazing and really makes the magnaflow muffler sound ALOT better. Throttle response was greatly improved and it feels all around faster but that could be in my head. I have been driving around with no music today because it sounds so good. Install was pretty easy too, it took about 45 minutes.

Sounds good!!! I really need to get one or make one. Ahh screw it, I am just going to make one.

Yah man I highly suggest it I love the sound and performance. You dont have all those resonator boxes on it that the stock one does plus it makes a nice whoosh sound, lol. Now I just need to remove the last cat(resonator) and upgrade to 2.5" piping. Also debating headers but I prob wont have the money for them any time soon.

Removing the resonator will help and so will the larger exhaust(as I have done this) but I would hold up on the headers because you can do some other things that will give as good or better gain for the money(my opinion). But if you have cash to burn, then get going:D

If I had cash to burn it would already be done, lol. What would you recommend? Maybe we should take this to PM's so this thread doesnt get off track more than it already is.

Cheapest mod to get better throttle response is to hinge the pedal - do a search; it's one of the first mods I did, and well worth the cost.

u have throttle by wire, correct?

Yah JCUZ has an 04 so its throttle by wire assuming its the same in the outback as the states. I feel like my throttle cable is a little stretched as the peddle has quite a bit of slack before it accelerates. Any mods for that, I know on my old ranger I put some zip ties in there to take up the slack but it didnt seem possible on the EX?

04-05 have throttle by wire and the best change for better response is with a tuner.(only thing really?)

Tyler-If you feel you have some slack, then you need to come by and we will check to make sure that both yours and mine are opening all the way at WOT. (just take the intake off and make sure the throttle body blades are fully opened) This goes for anyone else as well.

where you get the k&n intake for 150$?

I won it in an auction on Ebay and it was actually $150 plus $12 for shipping, but still I really good deal. The same seller has another one on there for $159 plus shipping but it doesnt end for a few days. The seller is surplusexhaust.

can you post me a link? ^ for the life of me i cant find it.

is that for the 02? i have a 04 v8 , not sure of the difference though?

thanks

Just looked at a Dyno from my 4.6L v8 book.

Seems like they made 20hp from a Roush ram air intake(CAI), 90mm MAF and Accufab 75mmTB and Upper Intake Plenum......but this was on a 355hp vortech supercharged 4.6L v8 motor.

So a CAI on a stock v6 or v8 might be worth a few HP on a Stock engine.

But if you got the 4.6L, your better off just saving up around $250-400 and getting the 70mm or 75mm TB and Upper Intake Plenum, and gaining a dyno proven 10-17hp up front.....THEN doing your cold air setup....and maybe some longtubes, if ya can fit them back there.

Also I just picked up a port and polished plenum for $75 that is dyno proven to gain more HP than an accufab or trick flow plenum when coupled with a 70 or 75mm throttle body. The best part is it doesnt have to be modified at all and was cheaper than the trick flow or accufab plenum. Now im searching for a bbk TB for cheap or the same seller also sells P&P stock TB for $44 that he says is pretty comparable to an out of the box bbk 70mm TB performance wise. The seller is 618jerrys he is very helpfull with any questions and deff knows what he is doing. I know there are a few people on here running his P&P plenum and TB.
