I want to put the MAC CAI on my '98 XLT 5.0 but im worried about this hydrolock i keep reading about. I live near Tampa, FL and we do experience really heavy rain throughout the summer months. I've read that the CAI's suck the air in through the wheel well and that driving in heavy rain and/or puddles can cause this hydrolcok and do some pretty serious damage. It's impossible for me to avoid this rain and I dont really know what to do. Does this mean I just can't have a CAI or what? Any advice or recomendations would be great. What do I do?:(

I see no reason not to have a so called cold air intake.

I live in Sarasota, withthe same rain, have a MAC and have never had any issues.

Good luck ....

The Mac intake is better than the stock intake on water resistance. The stock box draws its air from the fender well where the Mac comes from the engine bay. I have covered my 35s with water and never had a problem with my intake.

thank you both thats reassuring to hear. now i feel better about getting one. thanks!

A CAI which has an open filter element is less likely to hydrolock than a sock filter setup. The stock filter setup has a hole right behind the headlight where all the air is drawn in. An open element filter would have to be fully submerged before it drew water into the engine. Normal driving up and down the road, you will never have an issue with a CAI, and actually you are better off with one if you plan to foolishly do water crossings. (I say foolishly because I have done it and suffered as a result- I don't play in the mud and water :nono:)

thanks evan, i didnt know that. im glad you told me that now i cant wait to get it. thanks!
