Hydrolock?

Dont Give Up

When I hydrolocked my Explorer just recently I pulled the spark plugs then cranked it with the starter.

I had a LOT of water in there, all cylinders were full of water. Cranking the engine blew the water 20 feet + from my truck inturn shattering my center timing chain cassettes. This caused peices of plastic and metal to drop into the oil pan and others to eventually jam the timing chain, jamming the engine its self.

The center lower timing chain cassettes (crankshaft to jackshaft) are relitively easy to change. I'm thinking of doing a write up for it including pictures.

So what I suggest is drain the oil, then pull the oil pan off the bottom, 10x 10mm bolts. once the bolts are out you should be able to pry it of with your fingers. then tell us what you see sitting in the oil pan.

There will be water in the oil but right at the bottom of the pan with all the oil floating on top of it. So the dipstick probably wont show it if you havent run your engine for a while. Once you undo your oil drain plug you will see what I mean, when the water shoots out first.

Don't give up on your engine yet, The SOHC is a real nice piece of machinery once you get to know it. ;)
