Hi people,

as you can see im new to the forum, basically ive been looking at explorers for a while and have noticed they are common for noisy chains.

Went to look at one yesterday which i can get for £500 with 11 months mot.
drives lovely xlt model. needs nothing but the chain tensioners/chains??

How much in the uk would someone do this for? does anyone know anyone who can do it? If i decide not to get this one and pay more for another is that likely to need chains in the end?

a quick answer would be appreciated as the seller wants to know by tonight and i dont want to miss out if its a bagain ;)

Thanks in advance,

Jamie.

Well Justin in Newport wants £650.00 plus getting it there to do the job. It is an engine out job and special tools are needed for alignment. I've had mine done and he fits revised parts so it should not happen again. As the revised parts only came out in 2002 and all Explorers over here are 2001 or older I would say that they will all need doing eventually. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Is that £650 for everything parts vat etc??

I believe he is also doing lpg for about £800 (maybe a little cheaper as he has stuff appart to do the chains??)

Or you could do it yourself (gratuatous engine photo)

Yep you are right I must have miss read it and in fact on closer inspection that is Justin's company. But they do a good job. When I had mine done they did a collect and return for £100. Which was worth it considering the distance. I'm sure that has gone up along with the cost of fuel etc.

There is a guy on ebay that will replace the engine with one that has had all the necessary work done on it for £1500, a bit steep but you basically get an as new engine.
