My wife and I tow a small travel trailer with our 96 5.0 Limited. We are looking for hard pulling, low end torque to conquer the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado. Probably next year I will have a low to low/middle range RPM cam installed to enhance towing. My axle ratio is a 3.73LS. Our trailer weighs 3500 lbs. Plus, we usually carry a couple of hundred lbs. of gear in the back.

At present, the only mod so far are a pair Motorsport headers which will be installed in a couple of weeks. The rest of the truck is stock. We are a couple of boomers out to have a great time!

I am looking to achieve maxium torque at 2500 RPMs, as most of our towing is in this range. So which is the best cam and matched components for my purposes?

Price is not the object, but high quality and vehicle dependability is at the top of my list. This truck, in addition to being used for towing, is a daily driver for my wife . If possible, also tell me what other components should be changed out while my mechanic makes the cam switch. I have already figured replacing the water pump and timing chain. Valve springs, lifters ect...? Belts and hoses have already been changed recently. Thanks for your help. Mike
