Cam Question

Are you considering a cam swap or just curious? Our motors are essentially 99-04 mustang motors but we have aluminum blocks and the mustangs are iron.

ya i want to, but if i have to do tranny work i think i will hold off on it for the time being.

it depends on the cams, my crower stage 2 cams dont say a thing about a new stall converter, but yes, if you go with comp stage 2 + or crower stage 3+ you will likey want to swap for a new stall converter to maintain streetability. im going with a 2300 stall for the sake of performance, since im getting a level10 bullet proof trans anyways. You could always go with a high lift stage one set and not realy change the power band and just gain a decent amount of power through out the whole shabang. but for 600 bucks id go ahead and do the whole deal.

i was just wantin to take the cams from a 2004 gt.. what about my rear end?.. also anyone know where i could find a good set of headers?

the stock 8.8 is good for 400+ horses, you might need an aftermarket diff and ford racing gears if you pushed much further than that.

JBA headers makes shorty headers for hte 4.6L explorer, they are the only produced set. Check explorerexpress for them.

Why the mustang cams? they are the same as your explorers... if your going to do cams, id do them right, other wise your wasting money, IMHO.

i was told they would offer more HP if i swapped them to GT cams.. u seem to know what your talkin about. what cams would u suggest?

I believe he meant aftermarket mustang gt cams. Id go with a set of low rise stage 2 crower cams. IF you go high rise you need to get springs as well, over a grand when combined with cams. Get in touch with a performance shop in your area and see what they have to say. Id hate to recommend somthing to you that wouldnt work with out extra mods. Be forwarned, you will need a tune after cams (or the engine will run like crap), which will run an extra 400ish for the tune + handheld. again, get with a shop or a place that retails these cams and start asking questions, i have never seen anything mentioned about higher stalling converters for stage 2 crowers though. comp cam's stage 2 is like a stage 2.5 of crowers, they are a much more aggresive grind (crower 2's are good for 1250 rpm to 5800+ i believe, and the comps are 1800 - 6000+ ish)

I myself am going with trick flow cylender heads, crower stage 2 hi lift cams + springs + titanium retainers, and a built trans + stall converter. im going to be 5g's in the read for my trouble, and eventualy another 5 for a supercharger, i hope to break into the low 13's high 12's with such a build...but will also be satisfied with lower numbers =P
