I got a 91 X, and I saw some stock 16's off a 2003 X on ebay for really cheap, my question is will the 2003 rims fit on my 91. The auction claims they fit all years but I just want to make sure.

Yes, the offset on all Explorers is 5x4.5, any year will match another.

thanx for the info, hope i win them.

hmm.. i was thinking the 3rd gens stopped using the 5 on 4.5. that not the case?

they will fit

however.....

they will set slightly in from what your stock ones do. The offset/backspacing is slightly different than your stock '91's. you probably loose a 1/3" track width on each side

you will also have to drill a hole in the front center caps to clear the 4x4 hubs. The front caps also require a different lug nut to attach than what your '91 might have. fordpartsnetwork.com (a sponsor of this site) is a good source for getting the lugs if they are not included

I did it and have had no problems with it

let me know if you have any other questions about it.....

ahh.. maybe that's what i saw was different.. the backspacing. thanks for clearing that up.

Hmm.. I tried to put a set of 98 rims on my 92 and there was a ridge in the rim that wouldn't clear the center thing on the back drums.
