Hey all,
My dad has a 98 Benz SLK. It has the Supercharged 4 pot and is stock right now. My dad is probably gonna get a new car in a few years and I'm probably gonna buy the SLK from him to use as a daily driver. My truck (if it still runs) is gonna have weekend duty and is probably gonna get modded more.

Anyway, I've heard that with a few mods such as intake, pulley, and computer, that I can really pump the power up from that motor. Stock the s/c only makes about 2 lbs of boost, and should have much more capacity. Stock it's a quick car, but Splat can beat it up to about 80 ;)

Anyone know any good MB message boards like this one? I know it's still gonna be a few years, but I just want to see what's out there.

Thanks!

this is what my friend uses, ******* has a 99' E55:D He mainly went on their to see what exhaust to get b/c the stock AMG is way to quiet. Everything else was just damn expensive like Kleemen, Remus, RennTec ec...he ended up with two delta 40's b/c people on their said the non-delta's resonated horribly. His car sounds awsome, like a hitec big block...imagine an ohv 454 or 351 but in sohc form....sounds fu*ken wicked.

I went on their a few times to check it out and was kinda suprised at the number of people who moddified their Benz's, I already know about RennTec and Kleeman as there are quite a number of them where I live, RennTec is based out of FL. But it was just suprising to see the number of people actually wanting like exhaust and headers ect for the AMG equiped cars.

I've already found full exhaust systems from the block back. I also found some pulley kits and other stuff.

Looks like it's really pricey to mod these things though, so maybe I won't do that much to it . Stock it has 190 hp. Looks like with about $2k I can get 250-260 hp. Hmmmm.

Thats what my friend didn't like either, everything is so expensive to buy like cat backs for the E55 ect. So he bought two 40 series deltas and is extremely happy with them. Plus I've heard sounclips that members on there have posted before of their cars equiped with other Brands, couldn't even compare, FLOWS hand down friggen rock on the E55. No resonation at all b/c their deltas and the E55 still has a lot of sound dampning. But you can definitley hear a nice, deep growl inside thats for damn sure, outside the car sounds awsome.

EDIT - A lot of them use Magnaflow also, thought you might like that;) . I just heard two M5's, on running Magnaflows with the supersprint x-pipe, and the other running the pipe and G-Power exhaust...magnaflows obviously sounded sweet...but holy **** you should have heard the G-Power exhaust, I think it was deeper then 2 chamber flows:eek:

Hmmm. An intake kit and Magnaflow will probably do just as much good as renntech, etc for a third of the money. I just looked at renntech's catalog, and a gain of 40 hp and 40 tq is $3200! Computer, crank pulley, and exhaust pretty much.

Ouch!

Hmmm, maybe non-crazy intake and exhaust and the Kleeman pulley mod. $1500 and I'd probably gain about the same as the renntech kit. The only thing is factory installation is required for the Kleemann pulley system. But, for a drive out to CA and $1500, I could probably be in the low 14s ;) They say the Kleemann kit alone is $900 and gives about 35 hp.

Sounds like that's a whole lot more money than it's worth... Nice cars, but worth it that much for those mods? Not in my book

Well, I have spent $10k on my truck....

If you think about it, 40-50 hp on that car is quite a bit. I also just found a 13% gear reduction differential, but who knows how much that is.....Though with gears I wouldn't be able to keep traction off the line ;)

So is $1500-2k worth it to take the car from high 15s to mid to low 14s?

mbworld.org is an okay site, but its nothing like this one ;)

Like the Lexus boards, the Benz board is mostly just kids that have the cars handed to them, and most of them are real snots. Not worth my time.

Hope you find some information though, that motor does have a lot of potential.

Try Performance Products. They just incorporated their separate Mercedes division PAD (Precision Auto Design) into the other departments. They carry all the neat stuff for Benzes. That's where I got a bunch of stuff for our cars.

You can get a Mercedes only catalog from them. They have it alll from intakes to exhaust, as well as wheels and body stuff. A lot of it can be a bit pricey though, so be prepared to spend some green for the good stuff.
