Hello,

I just got a 2008 EB Ford Explorer. It was manufactured in 6/2007. I want to know if I can get a dealer to install the sync and if I can know the cost.

It has the phone symbol and Media on the steering wheel.

nope. just went in and asked the parts department. there is a kit available to add sync to vehicles 2009 and up only. sorry.

sync is a pretty hefty system...its not just a little box inside the radio....there are 2 modules that are on the vehicles network....its tied into everything not just the stereo. then there are external controls in the steering wheel and a special microphone built into the rearview mirror and finally the usb and aux inputs.

you can however get trip tunes which is a ford accessory that allows you to plug in an ipod and listen and control through the factory stereo and charge at the same time......but no bluetooth.

best bet would be to get something aftermarket if you want most of the same features as sync.....

something aftermarket what does that mean. Thanks

A new headunit that will do what the stock sync does, I saw some on ebay with nav, ipod control, BT (I think), touch screen, rearview cam, usb port, card reader, etc etc, it'll run you ~US800

exactly. just be carefull with those ebay headunits....research it before you buy it.....ive seen alot of them that have all those fancy features and they look sweet but when you get it installed the menues in the thing look like youre running MS DOS. not terrible but kind of dissapointing for 800 bucks. the more expensive name brand stuff is all top quality but for a pretty penny....you would never get a pioneer with all the above features for under 1500. shop around. or head on down to your local ford dealer and pick one of our nice new 09 modles! :D hahaha! sorry...someones gotta keep me busy.

I honestly wish i had joined this group before buying the 08. I assumed sync comes standard with 08.

wow thats a good looking unit...ive never seen ones like that. and yes that could easily be a diy job....if you have some simple know how and if you get the adapter plugs it will be incredibly simple...just plug it in
