can i put mercon V in my transfer case`

i am put in a new transmission in my 92 the step is remove transfer case and now jan 1 07 mercon III is no longer to be made for said for tansmisssion use Mercon 5 not transfer case the case used mercon is it ok use mercon v

Mercon V is semi synthetic, while Mercon III is basic ATF. Lucas makes an additive for Mercon III to act like Mercon V. This additive will not convert it into semi synthetic ATF, but will only add the necessary friction modifiers. So basically, there is not a major difference between the 2 except for Mercon V having enhanced friction modifiers, and being semi synthetic.
