Can I remove my stereo with coat hangers?

Hi, new to these forums and yes I have searched but no luck. Just bought a 99 Explorer XLT. I plan on installing a CD Changer because I do like the stock cassette lol. I have a Sony Aftermarket 10 Disc CD Changer that pretty much is installed like an Fm Modulator. Now I have a slight problem. I don't have any more money left to buy a din remover tool so I was browsing the internet and people said they were successful with using coat hangers. How can I do this? I know I'm a noob but you gotta start somewhere. Thanks for any answers!

Yes you can.. each side of the deck has two holes a couple inches apart, top to bottom...

Cut two long pieces of coat hanger ( at least 12") and bend into a big U shape.

insert one giant U in right side, insert one giant U in left side and pull..

Mine took a bit of work but and I think I had to bring my hands together, squeezing the deck while pulling hard..

Came out though!

Thank you. Can't wait to install my 6 year old CD Changer. If it doesn't work guess I have to go and get my coin jar and give 6 dollars worth of nickels and dimes to the cashier at autozone lol

I didnt use a removal tool or coat hangers to get mine out. I took the whole cover off by unscrewing the bolts above the AC, disconected the foglight switch and the others and used my fingers to compress the sides and pushed it out

You push outward on the hangers. That pulls the locking tabs in.

I used 4 allen wrenches

Sadly coat hangers didn't work. I had to take the bezel out. I think that's what you call it and just remove it from the clips or w/e you call it by pushing.. Was easy in my opinion. Thank you

Use nails. Worked for me when I installed one in an old 97 Explorer.

Autozone sells the radio tools for like 4 bucks. Its definitely worth the money. Other wise take out the bolts above the heater controls as mentioned above. Heres a picture and it makes it way easier to work on.
