So all three of the catalytic converters on my 2003 Explorer have holes in them and make noise. I live in a non-inspection state. Is there a way to simply remove them and just use straight pipe for that part while keeping the muffler?

I don't think a shop would legally do this, but I'm wondering if it would be difficult for me or a friend who can weld.

Thanks!

If it’s a matter of the car getting you to work you can replace them with pipe you’ll get a check engine light and like Donald’s said it is a federal crime. But if it’s your only option and replacement cats aren’t in the budget at the current moment it will run with pipe in place. I’d just contact an exhaust shop and see what they can do, universal cats are pretty cheap these days. Your planet would also thank you lol

You can also use clamp on universal catalytic.dont have to weld em

Just cut the old one with grinding disk or jigsaw.

Its illegal and based upon your post, you are aware of that. We don't discuss the commission of federal crimes on this forum. The only way to legally remove your cats is if you are going to use your vehicle for track / race only.

I am locking this thread.
