I have a 2000 sport that I picked up for 600 bux. It has 292K on it and runs great. Everything works on it and honestly has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. It currently has 4wd and it works great. I am getting a company car and plan on keeping the explorer as a toy. I am ditching the 4.0 and front axle in favor of a GM 5.3 and a couple of pounds of boost. The trans will go in favor of a th400. My question is: will the front suspension from a 2wd X just bolt in place of the 4wd suspension? IE knuckles will the torsion bars need swapped for 2wd torsion bars? Thanks for any help

it will, or you can go the cheep route, and just use the stub axles, and keep the 4x4 front wheel bearings. they are needed to keep the bearing from falling apart.

Why a 5.3? A 302 came stock in some explorers, so you can pick one of them up, and it is a lot easier swap. Plus, they had one the few GOOD Ford automatic transmissions mated to them. I mean, a 5.3 is a good engine and all, but that seems like a LOT of work to be putting into it...
