I have a 2000 Explorer AWD XLT.

Can I swap this (the knobbed type)...

Well, okay, but this if for a ford ranger.
I know these vehicles are very similar, but as far as the Ford Explorer XLT goes, they apparently DID come with EATC, and i was merely wondering if a controller from the same year/model explorer with EATCH can be plugged in directly without major mods.

These articles (both point to his private site) dont outline this.
(As far as I can see.)

The Ranger will be just like an Explorer without the Auto Climate. Everything will need to be added. I looked into doing this just after I bought my Explorer. But it wasn't quite worth all the trouble (to me, at least). :)

My factory service and wiring manuals arrived recently.
I am starting to see what you mean.

Did you ever find an answer to this? I'm actually looking to do the same thing. I have to replace the controller already, so I figured it would be nice to upgrade if I have to spend the money anyway. Let me know!!

It's much much more than just a controller swap. But it can be done.
