You'll be fine. I've pulled a trailor with a quad on my bumper with no problem.

I pulled an 18' bow rider for years off the bumper. You will be fine.

I've pulled a heep...I mean a Jeep on a trailer off my bumper. I've towed a half ton pickup for miles with my bumper. You could easily tow 4 jet skis off your bumper. Have you ever noticed how not very many explorers have bent rear bumpers? It's because their bumpers are solid! Personally, I don't really see the point of a receiver hitch on an explorer, except for avoiding all the nasty scratches around the ball on my bumper (although the trailer that did that had a very weird tongue on it. With a normal tongue, it shouldn't scratch.)

Yes I have pulled quads as well, one two seater and one single seater with a sport :exporange , what kind of waverunner you got?

O, I have a Seadoo SPI 2 seater

yeah you can easily. I towed a 20' trailer with a cavalier on it 50 miles with my 92's bumper

i tow an effin' boat

I'm sure you've found out by now, but if not, all '96 Explorers are equipped with a class II bumper hitch. This alloes one to pull a load consisting of 300 pounds tongue weight and load limit of 2500 pounds.

Class II = 350 lbs tongue and 3500 lbs gross trailer weight. But I'd say you could tow double that without damage. ;)
