I've had my Explorer for a year and used the keypad on numerous occations. I've often wanted to just lock my keys in the car and use the keypad as a means of opening the door but I don't know if I can trust it 100%. Is there anyone who does this?

Thanks..

I do it all the time! Never had a problem...just don't forget your code!!!

Also, if you lock your keys in the car, please be sure to do it in a Hidden spot, not something easliy seen fro mthe otuside, if you do that just gives someone the mean to break in and steal your car. Also dont leave anythign valuable showing, as someoen might break in for it, search soem more, find your keys and go for a joy ride......

That makes me feel better about using it. I've got 2 car keys, 4 remotes, and my house keys on the key chain so carring it around is a pain.

heh.. i've watched a friend of mine go up to my truck and punch on the pad for about 2 minutes randomly and unlock it. i tried it on someones too and was able to unlock it. great huh?

When I was in HS about a year and a half ago, I threw my keys in the center console and covered them up then locked the doors. I had no place to put them when I was in my band uniform so I left in the in the truck. I never had problem using the keypad to get back in and I never told anyone the keys were in there. So I've had no problems.

I always lock my keys in my car on purpose just so i don't have to worry about losing them or falling out of my pocket wherever i'm at.

Over time the buttons you push start to get worn so I would be careful with doing that.

just make sure the battery doesnt go dead and youll be fine.... if something does happen you can have the police slim jim it open for you....

Slim Jims are for sissies. Real men use rocks!

i always just keep a spare in my wallet, saved me from ever having to get a ride home because locking the keys in,

its also saved me the humility

a friend of mine locked his keys in his car, so he grabbled this metal hook thing that was on a light pole, he basically ripped it off the pole, and he shoved it down inside of the door of his escort, he pulled up on it and voila it was unlocked, the only problem with that was his door no longer opened from the inside after that :D

i've also had mine freeze up on me with my keys in the car. yes, it got that cold down here once. one of the buttons froze when i pressed it and i couldn't get in the car. luckily i was at the house and hadn't locked the door to the house!

Ok, that's weird, because I have used my keypad in blizzards, and in temps WELL below zreo, and have never had a problem with buttons freezing and or not working.

I too have never had problems with the keypad on the occasional trips to the frozen North.

The CAR?!?!?!?!

You need to be slapped silly JB...LOL!!

I lock my keys in my truck (in the ignition) all the time and nother ever happens. I just think it's funny how my friends jump in my x quickly before i get in and lock the doors and laugh, then i enter the code in as they're laughing and just open the door... they stop real quick.

Btw, I live in Maine so... not much crime up here to worry about (breaking windows to steal a car?).

It was wet at the time so I'm guessing there was some ice in there that held onto the button when I pushed it in. That has only happened once and I'm sure you could just get a pocketknife or screwdriver and get it back out.
