I have an '02 XLS and my wife was asking if I can install the lighted vanity visor mirrors from the XLT into our XLS. Is the wiring already there to make that happen, other than buying the lighted visors? What about the compass and outside temperature display? I see the readout is already in there, but what would be needed to make those work?

Possibly the 2002 might have the wiring for the visors. I have a 92 XL, and it did not have the wiring for the visors or even the dual maplights. I did convert it though, so it is possible.

Hi Sharpshooter,

I have a 2002 xls and am trying to do the very same things! I've obtained (ebay) a class II tow hitch and bought the 7 pin hitch connector from Ford and will do that swap out sometime this Spring. Also, I'm trying to do the external temp thing and have not been succesful yet. I bought the ambient temp sensor and plugged it into the harness(which is there at the right side front near the radiator) and hoped it would work, but no go yet. I think I need to go to a dealer and have them activate it though the computer. As for the lighted visors, I can't help you yet. I can't believe that no one else has tried some of these mods!! I've been posting for a while to try and get a reply on this stuff.

Also, I did buy the roof rack cross bars from the dealer and put these in place.

The external temp readout would be nice to have.

Sure you can, I doubt the wiring is there though. I added a overhead console with the temp and compass as well as lighted sunvisors on my 2000 XLS. It was a lot of wiring. Since the 2002 is different I'm sure the procedures would be somewhat different. But it can be done.

I have a 1998 XLT and the external temperature readout has gotten way off, as in 30 deg or so higher than the correct temp. will replacing the ambient temp. sensor as mentioned in an above post remedy this problem or is it something else? thank you

that is just the display the actual ensor is somewere in engine compartment down below near the radiator..

the wiring should be there as i believe they yuse the same harness for mostly all.

for instance no power seats but the wiring is under the seats for them...
