Cannot believe this!!!!!

In High School business class I was taught that you needed to make a down payment in order to obligate a business . . . .

I guess I need to say it again....I TRIED! They assured me that since they knew me and that there where 2 managers involved in the deal that I didn't need to make a deposit. They assured me that there would be no problems. I took business law too and agree that there should have been one but never imagined they would sell it out from under me. Big mistake on my end and lesson learned.

I hear what you all are saying. It's just that I am a business owner too, and I could NEVER get away with treating my customers the way I have been treated. I rely on the public and my community to support me and in knowing that, present a good quality product at a fair price. It is like the kids are minding themselves at these dealerships. I just don't understand how they can get away with treating people like such garbage. The funny thing is too, that our businesses are in the same community and they know I come in contact with hundreds of people every day in our community. You'd think they would want to provide me with a stellar experience so that I could provide good PR for them. Now, I will make sure I tell as many people about this experience as I can get my hands on.

Unfortunately, Ford CAN do that because they have such a huge customer base. Abusing their customers won't hurt sales to a noticeable degree. In fact, it may save money, because nobody takes their time to make sure everything is right. I guess Ford puts profits ahead of customer relationships.

...really should start a category on here for Dealers/Service Depts.

it all seems so hit and miss with dealers. reviews on Yelp and elsewhere are so damn scary, except dealerratings.com which is total BS-all 5 stars...
im sure its the same everywhere...
grease in the car,
parts not put back together right,
issue not fixed, ignored or brushed off,
overcharging,
using wrong parts,
using right parts, but fixing it wrong
BS sales tactics,
salesman with complete lack of knowledge about the car you are there looking at...

if this wasnt happening at any particular dealership they could make all the money in the world...but its like, happening at all of them...certainly any US brand, Honda,
dont personally know of others...

Honda service dept I went to, to look at the drivers door window unit, couldnt get the part for days, so had to put it back together so I could leave, at no charge.

Left there and car reaked of gas, so bad it couldnt be driven.
-couldnt see where the fumes were coming from until I went home with all the windows down on day that was 38*,

opened the door and got on my hands and knees.

so the mechanic, maybe miffed for no charge?, left a spot of gas on the door sill
in both corners.

almost invisible...
but air from driving pushed fumes through the car like a wind tunnel.
...amazing

.....

Dealers and salesman are definitely out to make money...

I ordered my sport two month ago. They even had my name typed on the window sticker when it arrived.... It showed up and 3 hrs later I was there to pick it up. By the time that I got there, salesmen had already called a couple of people to look at it....

Best part... My wife works at the dealership.... lol....

Hi everyone,

If you have feedback (negative or positive) about your dealership experience, I can get it documented in our system. To get started, send me a PM with your name, daytime phone number, dealership name/location, and any details you'd like to include.

Thanks!

Crystal

Crystal, is this for both U.S. and Canadian dealerships?

Hi Peter,

Currently, I can only document feedback for dealerships in the United States. Canadian customers can have their feedback documented by contacting Ford Canada at 1-800-565-3673.

Hey Relly,
Which dealer did you go to? I am in NY and went to a few also to get my EX LIM. They are shady depending on who you deal with.

Something doesnt sound right. How on earth would a dealer not tale a deposit on a 50k vehicle? Ice barley been able to get away from a test drive with out being pressured to put a deposit down.

It was a dealer in AZ as I live here now.

It's completely right. I did not order the vehicle, it was a dealer order for their lot. They said it would be no problem to hold for me since they had already known me from a prior order and had put money down on that one.

In fact, an **update**...I got a call from the GM's assistant last night and she looked into it and admitted this was the worst screw up she has ever seen there as there were notes on the computer in the specs of the car that it should have been held for me. She said the manager who sold it, didn't check the computer when he should have. It wouldn't have even mattered if I put money down or not because he wouldn't have checked it. She is talking to the GM today (as he has been out of town) and they are going to see how they an make good. I'm not sure they can but I am hopeful.

You need to OUT the dealership so no one else goes there.

Hopefully it wasn't Rodeo Ford in Goodyear AZ, I like those guys, they have been really good and they have the AZ State contract for DPS.

rellyrooly, I hope all of this turns out well for you. The Ex is an awesome vehicle. We are in Florida and had a crummy dealer experience as well. Our only consolation is that our tires will NEVER grace their pavement for service, body work, etc and that we will never spend another dime there. We have made sure that when people ask about the Ex we tell them what a great vehicle, that Ford Corporate was supportive and never to go to Prestige Ford in Mt Dora, Florida. Not only did we order a vehicle, put a sizeable down payment on the vehicle, go through ridiculous hoops and get ignored by the local dealer, but they put our car on the main lot for sale when it arrived. The car we waited months for!! We wouldn't even have known it had finally made it were it not for Ford Corporate. When we asked the dealer to have everything ready to sign on Saturday morning (on Thursday) they were even incapable of completing that task...and the cherry on top....they tried to deny us our rebates and "forgot" about our down payment. Yes, we recognize that this was an issue of dealer incompetence...but it really didn't help the overall image of Ford that we had. The manufacturer to dealer to customer model is painful, expensive and outdated. But it won't be changing anytime soon. Good luck in your continued search rellyrooly.-

I have never heard of a dealer refusing to take a deposit on a vehicle. Bottom line. Until that happens - you have no real claim to it. I would simply go somewhere else if you feel cheated. They are backpeddaling now because they think you will start writing checks for a new vehicle... do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. I would just tell them 'no thanks - I'm going elsewhere'. Thats it. No need to continue the agony or drama - and you are only rewarding them by continuing to do business there.

Maybe if they get you the EXACT SAME vehicle (you had a window sticker right?) and are willing to knock $500 - $1,000 bucks off. Otherwise I would tell them to get lost.

But you hadnt yet agreed to a price either, right?

Even after you make a deposit you have no claim. Them taking your deposit just means they promise to order a vehicle with the specs you request. It's at the dealers discretion to actually sell you the vehicle. Once they order it, it is theirs until they sell it. They have to give up an allocation to bring the vehicle in, the vehicle is not yours until you actually sign the registration papers. They can sell the vehicle to whomever they choose.

It's really unfortunate that we are not able to order vehicles directly from the factory. It would be nice to just get financing, go online, place an order, wire transfer some cash, and have the vehicle delivered to our door :)

Similiar thing happened to us. The dealer called us on our way there to make sure we were still coming to buy. By the time we got their the car was sold. We were irrate. How do you sell something in less than 30 minutes from a really small dealer? Eventually we were told there was a screw up in the computer system and the salesperson didn't record something correctly. We went to a total of 5 dealers and they were all awful. One manager even threw my keys at me. We ended up ordering from the first dealer since they made it up to us on price. It look having to call the GM to actually get the car ordered though. It is supposed to come in next week. One day before we go on vacation. I am very nervous that if delivery is delayed the car is going to be sold out from under us after all of this waiting. The Ford corporation really needs to get better control on what is happening at their dealerships.

Town East Ford here in Dallas screwed me over.

They had an Explorer Sport on their lot that I wanted to test drive. I called them on a Tuesday to schedule a Test Drive on Saturday.

They said they'd call Saturday to confirm the time to arrive at the dealer. Didn't hear, so I called them around Noon on Saturday. Turns out they sold the car, didn't want to tell me. Were scrambling to find another in the DFW area to get on their lot that day....

Well, that same day I drove up North to Plano at Sam Pack's and bought one.

Now Town East keeps calling me 2 months later leaving messages asking if I am still interested.

The dumbasses missed out on a car sale.

Had another dealer say If I wanted a Sport it was 8 weeks out and they couldn't sell it to me for anything less than sticker.

1 week later I was in a Sport, paying 5K under sticker for it.

Like you I live in Ontario, Ottawa to be precise. I was in my local Ford dealer
on 31 Jan (last day of Costco rebate) and worked a deal out on a Sport. The dealer ordered it while I was in the showroom and I left the dealer without putting down any deposit, I made the 1st months payment when I picked it up on 10th April.
