I am finally buying brand new tires for my 93 Explorer this coming week and cant decide whether to get 33x12.50s or 33x10.50s. They will be going on my 15x8 rims so rim width isnt a problem. 10.50s are cheaper, but will i regret not going with a 12.50? Rubbing problems with 4" lift? Traction a factor?

Going to purchase monday if possible.. would appreciate it if you guys threw up your opinions to help me decide.

Thanks!

Jack

with a 4" lift go with the 12.50s, the 10.50s will look a little too skinny and you'll regret it. Outside of looks, the 12.5s on an Explorer are a better choice because you're a bigger/heavy vehcile and it will offer more surface area.

I've ran 33x9.5 and 33x12.5 BFG MT on my truck and it was night and day difference on dirt and sand, the 9.5 would dig down and then go forward. I felt more stable off camber with the 12.5s as well.

Usually guy like the narrow tires if 1) they are trying to keep weight down for lack of regearing or daily driving 2) they are running in snow 3) they would rub a 12.5 while flexed

Thanks for posting up Danny..

I wheel with guys from 2 Jeep clubs I belong to so I need every advantage I can being a taller, wider, heavier vehicle. I have been a little puckered during some off camber trails recently and would like the 12.50s for that reason. The only reasons I would go with a 10.50 is the lower price and less strain on my drivetrain until I re-gear. But overall I think I would regret going with a narrower tire. The 32x11.50s on my truck right now stick out almost right where I would like the tire to be, I'm just afraid that with a 12.50 I'll get questioned about fender/tire widths and have to put my flares back on.
