I've got a 2002 Explorer sport and simply cannot find very many upgrades for it. I've got the 4.0L 4X4. I can't remember if it's sohc or ohc, I'll check if yall can help me.

I'm looking for upgrades that increase power, and more importantly fuel economy. I think aesthetic parts will come last on my spending list. It's bone stock, (except for the light bar on the front) with about 30k miles on it. I usually put mid-grade gas in it, but I put premium in because the last station didn't have mid grade; but I haven't really driven it enough to verify any power or mileage changes.

I've got a magnaflow cat back coming very soon. (Since magnaflow doesn't make one for my truck, they're sending me one for the sport trac and we'll have to a little modifcation)

I'd like to get a K&N FIPK but after searching the boards, I've concluded that just a replacement type filter would be about the same and cost way less. (Any input on this?)

I've been searching the net for the last 2 hours and can't find a larger throttle body or mass air flow sensor. The throttle spacers don't really make sense to me and a couple members here say they're just a waste of money. Can anyone find me a TB or MAS for my model? I simply cannot find one!

Computers: I've only read things like "we love them" or "most people on this board approve of them" about the Apten chips. Anyone want to reccommend a good thread about them before I go searching or have some testimonials? Or does anyone have another chip to reccommend?

If there is a to die for looks mod that's pretty dern cheap, or any other performance mod that I missed, toss it in here!

Thanks in advance!

My one and only bump to the top then I'll give up...

ok well I would get the FIPK unless money is SUPER tight. Deff worth it. Go to www.explorerexpress.com and im sure you will find stuff there.

BTW: you have a SOHC

Cool, thanks a bunch. I forgot about that site.

I've got one more question. It seems like I have a gen 2.5 X as it looks like the sport trac, but is 2002. Most site that sell 2002 stuff (billet grills and such) don't have the same explorer in mind. Should I mainly be looking for things that are meant for the sport trac? They both have the same engine, front end, and interior right?

well all your front body parts are the same. The suspention is also the same with just a shorter wheelbase. You should be able to use any engine mod they have avail for it but I would get a second opinion first (IE: post what you want and I should or others should respond). Call they guys at EE and let them know what your looking for. They should be able to direct you to the right stuff

i have a K&N FIPK and if you have the money i would definately recommend it as a performance mod. it won't make a huge distance in stop and go city driving but on the highway it will make your engine purr. and there is a noticeable increase in power and throttle response once your get past 3000 rpms. so far i've gotten an extra mile per gallon on the highway as well.

Hmm, maybe I will go for it then. Usually don't go past 3000 revs unless I'm passing someone, think It'll still give more power and mileage? I can get one for 182 bucks, how much did you get yours for, or do you know of a place that has it cheaper?

Are the headers be worth the $300+ pricetag? I've read mixed thoughts about them.

if you have any pics id like to see that light bar on the front. im interested in getting one just not sure how it would look. thanks

I don't have a pic and my camera is at my house in Santa Fe; sorry. But Westin though of that and took pics of all the different vehicles: Dead Link Removed

I've got the gold 2 tone paint job on my X and the black powdercoat looks pretty good in contrast. I haven't had a chance to put on my lights yet, but they too are black and should be a good combo.

It's a simple install too; remove the plastic shroud just below the tow hooks. Then loosen the 4 bolts holding on the tow hooks and slide the brakets in. Then just bolt the bar onto the brakets. If you've got a socket set and a ratchet wrench, it shouldn't take more than 20 minutes. I can't vouch for the light install though...

Here is a good site for replacement parts. Its also show pictures most of the items, which can be good for comaprison. https://www.rockauto.com

I think it is a good thing they don't make a lot of after market mod junk for explorers.

ANYONE can get a Taho or what have you and bolt on a grand in mods.

With our Explorers we have to get creative and come up with our own tricks and mods.
We are forced to be creative. Looking around this site there are some very, very creative folks. That is cool.
