Dropped the starter to have it checked. Bought new positive cable, ran it to the starter. Cleaned the starter. Now I can't get it back in. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

What is the problem?

I will agree they are not a lot of fun. Did you drop the front drive shaft? I think I pulled mine out without dropping the shaft but removed it to get it back in. Can't get the bolts started? What?

I can get it in past the drive shaft with no problem. I guess I'm just not lining up the teeth on the starter right. I've tried spinning the teeth on it, but still can't get it to go all the way in. I'm just wondering it anyone has any useful tricks or tips to suggest to get this thing back in. I've spent about an hour or so trying to get it in.

you must be missing something obvious...I took mine out, rebuilt it and put it back in less than an hour.If the only thing you changed was the cable, take it off and see if that is it.

I dunno man, have you tried one of those BFH's that are out now?:D

Can you get the bolts in at all or is it too far out for that? I would guess just bash it, spin the teeth, try to get the bolts to grip and kinda force it in...have you bought a Haynes Manual yet? It might have some useful info for ya.

You must be overlooking something, I replaced mine in about 25 min.

The teeth should not be giving you any problem. The starter gear is not engaged into the flywheel unless you are starting.

Hopefully you got it in by now, what was wrong.

Found out the pinion was still engaged after it was checked at autozone. Jumped it, and put it back in with no problem. found out the pos cable was corroded. Thanks for everyone's help! ;)
