Just picked up my 2016 XLT with MFT and Nav. The voice control button on the steering wheel does not function. I'm coming from a 2014 FET with the same system, albeit with different buttons. I push it and say "Find an Address" or "Call John Smith in cell." No response.

Is there a setting that I missed? When I push the button there is no chime or response to it. Help!

Thanks.

Check in the menu, there is a setting for advanced or novice voice commands, can't remember if there is an off. Also try turning up the volume just after you hit the voice button, the volume may be down all the way. If neither works, I'd try battery disconnect for 10 minutes. This will cause a reset/reboot. If that doesn't work I'd contact the dealership.

Hi scoutexplorer,

Lewisra gave some good tips to try, but if they don't work, send me your VIN in a private message and I'll take a look at your software.

Here are the steps to check which interaction mode it's set to:

Gears > SETTINGS > VOICE CONTROL > NOVICE or ADVANCED

Also make sure CONFIRMATION PROMPTS is set to ON, and you can adjust the level of her voice on that screen as well.

Thanks Lewisra and Rebecca!

I tried both of these. Ended up doing a master reset and that did the trick. Now, the only thing not right is the navigation quad on the screen has a yellow question mark on it.

Pop the map card(it's in front console) and reinsert.

Actually there is a bulletin out on that. PM me your VIN and I can DL the fix and email it to you. Will save you a dealer trip. This is why the voice control wasn't working either and it will probably go back to failing again.

Hi scoutexplorer,

I'll pass your thanks on to Rebecca.

Glad to hear you've got things running smoothly.

You may want to visit your dealer to resolve the navigation issue if it is still ongoing.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Actually, things went back to bad. However, a Field Service Action notice called FSA 15B32 came across my My Ford account today.

I posted this in the recall thread but it merits being included here.

I have an appointment with my dealer to fix the issue(s) next week. They had not heard about it before my call. I did some internet research and found this. My car has navigation with several of these symptoms, which the FSA should resolve.

In some of the affected vehicles, the Traffic, Directions, and Information (TDI) application for SYNC services may not be correct for the vehicle. For vehicles with navigation, this may result in one or more of the following conditions: 1. a yellow question mark appearing in place of the compass on the home screen 2. the Voice/Push-to-Talk button becoming inoperative/unresponsive 3. if a phone is paired, inadvertent dialing of the SYNC services number without the customer initiating the SYNC services feature. For vehicles without navigation, this may result in one or more of the following conditions: 1. the Voice/Push-to-Talk button becoming inoperative/unresponsive 2. TDI/SYNC services becoming inoperative Before demonstrating or delivering any of the vehicles involved in this program, dealers are to update the TDI application in the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) using a USB drive. This service must be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner.

If you would have noticed my post above I can email you the fix if you don't wish to wait to go to the dealer. Its the same thing they would do.

jmr601,

Thanks for the offer. I'll send the VIN your way. You were helpful in another topic for the same vehicle last month.

Update: Thanks to help from jmr601 I updated the APIM and now have a fully functioning SYNC, at least for now. Hands free button works; the yellow ? on the Nav screen disappeared; my phone did not auto dial contacts or MySync.

Thanks jmr601!
