My parents both own a 96 Ford Explorer and my mom can't open both of her back doors from inside and my dad can only open on of his back doors. There is no child protectant locks on them either. Can you please help them? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Wendy

I recently had a strange door problem too. Take a look at Dead Link Removed

Had that problem on 97

The grease getw washed out. Bought mine and both handles had the gears broken. Replaced handles and still wouldn't work. Pumped oil into door latches and lightly worked the handels. After about 30 tries they would work again. The light wire from the handles easily bends if there is any restriction. Too much power washing. Lube latches every 6 months.

I can bet you money that the door handle is broken. It's one of the most common problems on Explorers. One of my rear doors is like that too. I took the panel off and low and behold, the door handle is broken.

Do a search, there're a lot of topics like that here.

my two back doors do that too. but it is selective therefore I know nothing is broken inside. Sometimes the damn things just dont wanna open from the inside. and you have to hop and and open it from the outside

and the child safety locks arent on

There is a little plastic piece that breaks. Search "rear door won't open" and you'll get lots of threads and the fix.....

It's just a safety issue Ford fully knows about, but refuses to fix, or at least redesign the replacement handles they sell.
