'96 Explorer 5.0, +/- 90K miles
So, a couple of months ago, I am heading out from the office, and about 5 miles away, I happen to look at the gauges, and the temp is on H. Pull her over, water everywhere, steaming like mad, the water pump has "popped." Truck is taken to trusted shop..........wp, t'stat, serp belt, couple of smaller hoses, etc replaced, all is well.
Head out from the shop this morning, to see a contractor about 20 minutes away. I pull up to his office, and get the "beep" from the info center. I am use to this beep because I never put gas in my truck when it has more than 10 miles til empty.
But, I know that I just filled up a couple of day ago, so I take a look over, something like "Engine Temp High" is shown. Quick check of the gauges, yep, on the H again.
Cut her off, and pop the hood. Steaming of course, and water is all over the passenger, front part of the engine compartment.
Upper hose looks good, and no other piping is really in that area. But the engine did run with the leak, so the origin could be anywhere, so I call the tow truck (ironically, me getting stuck at that contractor's office turned out to be a benefit financially, but that is another story).
Boom, talk to the mechanic a little while ago (who I trust), and the god dam radiator seam busted on the pass side!!
So, now I get a new (aftermarket) radiator and upper hoses, plus another stat.
So, in the past two months, I will have replaced EVERY part of the coolant system, outside of the engine passages and heater core!!! :thumbdwn:
pointless? yep...........just ranting
