New player alternative*

Well, today i plugged in a few of my old tapes, that I had laying around to test out the sound (instead of the radio) and the tapes worked, but then I tried to put in my blank cassette to other tape, to plug into my iPod and it didn't work. Would I be able to get any kind of tape deck, or do I have to find a specific type? Hopefully tape players aren't hard to come by anymore, or at least, cheap :)

Relatively cheap and has an auxiliary input for your iPod. Cassette players in vehicles were on their way out when the first gens were being produced. CD receivers with aux. inputs will allow you to listen to pretty much anything you want. Just take a 3' or 6' long 1/8" male-to-male stereo cable and plug it into your iPod and then into the aux. input on the receiver.

If you really want a cassette receiver, there's this one:

Ok, so the player that is currently in there (OEM) isn't some specialized player? I can just replace it? I heard some people having problems with the power going into the players, since most newer players work on a 12V line and the OEM is working with a special 9V, not sure if it's true or not.

Can't say that I've ever heard that.

If you buy a receiver from Crutchfield or any other large retailer, they usually include a vehicle specific wiring harness adapter. It connects the receiver to the stock wiring through an adapter harness. You connect the wires from the receiver to the wires on the adapter, then simply plug the harness into the factory stereo plug and you're done. You can buy the adapter separate if you wish.

Ok, well I've been thinking about it and I was wondering if anyone had any alternative ideas that I could use to hook up my iPod to my audio, without buying a new player. Cheapest I could find in town was $79.99. Not much of a fan of buying online, unless it's an absolute steal, most of the time it costs the same, after shipping... most of the time.

FM modulator.

You plug it into your iPod, then set your radio to the frequency of the modulator. Most of them use an obscure frequency so that they don't interfere with existing commercial stations.

Went to walmart and they had FM Transmistters going from $59.99 and up. Went to my usual computer store and found one for $20. Although I'm broke at the moment, will have to wait until payday :( Just saved myself $60 bucks, if it works!! :D

I just didn't want to put too much money into my X, since it's a bit old.

when i still had the cassette players in mine i would put in the tape and then i would have to hit stop then after a few seconds i would hit play and it would work fine

Thanks, I'll try it out :D

Well it worked. But it skipped a lot. I guess the wheel/ reader is off set or something. The sound was low quality. So I'm going to try out the FM transmitter, then if I don't get what I want from it, I'll just get a new player :)

If you get a new player you can also get them as cd players that will also play MP3 CDs. had one and it worked great only a few CD's for all my music as to normal audio CDs were I had about 50 I now only carry about 15 and love it.

Ya, I'm just going to get a new player. The cheapest one I could find, was the best for my needs. Has CD+ USB+ Auxillary, so I'm set :) Just have to wait until Friday, then I'm going to get it and install it.

There ya go and I bet you will be a lot happier then you were with the cassette tape player. Man and here I still remember installing 8 tracks wow I am getting old. You know you’re old when you can remember 45 record players in cars.

The problem will be if you have a factory amp like mine does, then it gets a lot harder to wire up.On my old towncar the radio went to the amp in the trunk and then to the speakers, there was no way to wire the new radio to the speakers from the dash.

I have not looked at the wiring diagram for my 94 to see if it worked the same,I only know it took the stereo install guy over an hour to do the wiring on the new cd player because of the amp.Nice thing is here you buy the radio and it's $1 for the install.:D

I still have a couple dozen 8 tracks new in the plastic wrap at my mom's house.

Holy $h1t! They had 45's in car stereos? Considering suspension tech in that era (or a lack thereof) I'm rather astounded! I recall swapping 8 tracks as a kid, but I'm only 33 and we were poor with carbed cars, an open beer in the center console, lap belts up front only, B/W tvs with rabbits ears, tube radios (basically outdated hand-me-downs of retired technology).

Yup they sure did have them sad part is every thing you talked about I remember as being normal LOL. But then again I remember the day JFK was shot same with MLK and the old duck and cover drills because of a possible Atomic bomb attack. Things sure change given enough time. Heck soon even CD will be out dated and in fact almost are now but I wonder what will replace the MP3 player.
