Im ordering the 50 series flowmaster exhaust in a few min actully and a local shop is making me a system. I wanted to know what kind of power or power loss or anything if i have them make the exhaust from the headers back instead of having the cat.
I kno it might be illlegal somewhere or something but i dont mind since we have no emmissions or anything where i live. I just really wanna know what could i expect good or bad..remember its just an idea.

Leave the cat on, if you want a higher flow one that's ok (the stock one isn't too restrictive from what I understand). The computer relies on the oxygen sensors in the cat to adjust and tune the engine.

Chances are the stop won't take off the Cat anyway, atleast their not suppose to. But if you ahve OBDII, I'd leave it on there.

No emissions in New York? Really?

Either way I would keep it. Better for your lungs and your passengers'. I'm not saying that to be an a$$. You would just regret it when you start smelling that exhaust fume. Trust me, been there.

Everyone should run a cat.

Theres emissions in NY but not the county i live in. My bosses brother in law owns the shop where im goin and he said it no problem takin them off, but i doubt i will just wondering what others thought

Your '97 can't be run without a cat. All OBDII (96-up) vehicles run O2 sensors ahead of and after the cat. Eliminating the cat will set the check engine light. In all honesty, the cats do not restrict the exhaust enough to make a difference. The only thing you'd notice is a louder exhaust tone. Do yourself a favor and just leave the cat alone.

As usual, Mr. Boyle is dead bang on, IMHO. Guys listen to him when he speaks. He's one of the best sources (of many) of info on this site.

We here at Serious Explorations do not condon doing illegal procedures.
I am closing this thread :nono:
