I was told by the dealer (service) that I need new cats. Any suggestions on where to buy new ones and how difficult it is to replace them myself?

What reasons did the dealer give you for needing new cats? If you still for some reason have under 80k miles, it's still covered under OBDII emissions coverage. Usually when a cat goes bad it's due to the catalysts inside break apart. One of my pre cats on my y-pipe did this sending all the fragments into the main cat and blocking it, I bought a Random Technology pre cat delete stainless steel y-pipe and stainless steel single high flow cat from Todd Z from Zabteck Technologies for less then the crappy oem parts cost.

It's my brother's 2002 Sport Trac. His engine had to be replaced. It was replaced by the local Ford dealer. And, afterwards they told him his cats were bad. His fuel mileage is down and the check engine light keeps coming on.

My 1st advice was get a free estimate (2nd opinion) from Midas. He may of may not. But, I thought that I would look into the replacement myself.
