Hey all,
Love all the input everyone has here! I finally have a question of my own. I have 1992 sport and I have a sound coming from inside my catalytic converter that sounds much like an exhaust leak. I am assuming that it is my converter being clogged up, if so how do I correct this? I have been told that you can soak a cat in soapy water for a day or so and it will unblock it. Any input?

If it sounds like a leak it probably is a leak.

At the gasket or it's rusted through.

Take it off and look at it. If it has holes or is melted replace it.

There is no method for cleaning cats. Any chemical used will damage it in some way or another. A WATER ONLY RINSE is ok, NO HIGH PRESSURE.

Ok, I knew i would eventually have to take it off. The bolts are so rusty it will be a huge pain.

Thanks for the input!

Not that I advocate it, but in the south it is common for catalytic converters to have a small square hole cut in them, the cat hollowed out, and the hole welded back up. I have had several cars that this had been done to (previous owners) and you had to look close to tell they'd been modified.
