Catalytic Converter Replacement

I had a shop do the whole job. They replace the cats with a single high flow one and also did all the piping from the head pipes back in 2.5" with a high flow muffler so a bit more then a cat back system. I have noticed a better running truck from just this one change. Later I did the air filter and I am happy with it now. The wife likes the low but not to load growl the exploder has now also LOL. I did this change back in 2002 and still am as pleased as the day I did it. It is not a flow master set up but one on pare with them just not in name. In the end it was about $180.00 for the whole job and well worth it. Also in Calif. You have to be careful some shops will not install a cat you bring in because of the laws about used and rebuilt ones that are not also recert by C.A.R.B.

My Explore failed smog test, so I need to replace it.
Trying to install it this weekend!

Has anyone had a problem with passing emissions with a high flow cat? Is there any brands of cats that are better than another?

You aren't going to gain anything by replacing the factory cats other than sound. Yes single aftermarket cats pass with just as good of numbers as the stock unit.

MY single I would say flows better then the stock one. I can not swear to it as I had it and the muffler replaced at the same time. I did notice a bit better gas mileage and power after there replacement but I also had larger pips put on it from the head flanges back all the way. . I also have never had trouble passing smog with it from the cat. I do just barely pass every time but it is some thing other then the cat that is doing it and no one can tell me what or why .I have lost all my paper work so I get to start over from scratch again as I do not remember what reading it even way grrrr. Hope this helps ya or any one out. I know faced with it again there would be no hesitation on my part the stock stuff would be gone and new free flowing put in. that’s my story and I am sticking to it!:D
