CD Changer mounting in Center Console & 6x9's fit?

I'm looking to mount a sony cd changer in the center console but the dimensions look pretty tight. Just curious as to if anybody else has tried it, if not in the console, where? Also, I know that the explorer will take 5x7's and 6x8's, but could i fit sony 6x9's with little mods? Thanks.

I have the factory changer in my center console of my 99. The aftermarket changers should be the same general size.

There is plenty of room left in the console for, in my case, a 9mm Beretta, some ink pens a notebook, etc.

Sony's are listed as 7 1/4+in. deep, but the center console is nearly that. I can probably squeeze it in though. I was just wondering if anybody had pulled it off.

Sony Changer

I went through the same stuff a year ago. Not many changers will fit, but my Eclipse 8 disc did. Sony makes an ES 6-disc changer that will fit, but the others are gonna be tight. The metal arm that your console sits upon can be slightly trimmed to accomodate a changer without sacrificing structural integrity, but you should find a changer or two that won't need trimming. The ES is kinda pricey, but well worth it. Anything from Sony's ES line is tremendous stuff.

Also, depending on the console you have, you might have a liner in there with the CD/Tape holder thingies. That liner comes out with 4 bolts and frees up over a 1/2 inch in each dimension.

Yeah, i know. I'm only worried about the depth, it only gives me about a fourth for clearance, so i guess i'll just have to try it. Thanks guys.
