'2000 XLT
hi guys, i just bought a 2000 XLT Explorer. Eventually i want to replace the head unit. I want to buy one of those cd-mp3 players, the one's that play MP3's burned on cd. i'm sure u know what i'm talking about. anyway, it'll probably be a couple of months till i get one, but i was wondering what u guys thought was the best bang for the buck. I will not spend any more than $300-350. I've looked at pioneers, jvc's, etc. I'm not gonna get an alpine, aiwa, or sony (unless its really good). Any help and pictures would be appreciated. thank you

Hi maverick
I have a kenwood MP3 619. its at Bestbuy for $299 but I got mine on ebay for $230 shipped. And its brand new in a sealed box with manufactures warrenty.

It has 50x4 watts. I have had it for about 3 months now and it hasnt skipped once. it has a 67 color display which can scan all the colors or stay on the color that matches your interior or gauge lights.

I highly recommend it.

you can see a picture of it here...

Pioneers are a great choice. My opinion they make the best head units. Mine was 370 and it has the mp3 playing ability.

I love having my MP3 HU.

The model I have has been superceeded, but mine is pictured below:

Aldive-

I was thinking about getting that HU. I have a JVC 12 disc changer in my x right now and am wanting to get a better HU that I can straight connect my changer too without having the modulator or the wired remote sensor. They say that, that JVC would be a straight connect to the changer.

Do you really like that HU?
Any problems installing it?
Where did you get the dash mounting kit at?

Any suggestions or help would be great!

Yes, I love it. The only things I do not like are the silver color and the size of the clock display ( too small for me ).

The install took all of 5 minutes; very simple.

The mounting kit came with the unit; I purchased it from Crutchfield. Circuit City stocks the mount kit too,

Good luck......

Thanks Al.

I'll check out Crutchfield and Circut City.
I think that will be the one I get.

Thanks for your help.

I do not think that this model is availabler anymore. Check out the newer ones.

Good luck.....

If you want to keep a fairly factory look then check out www.evisteon.com. Here is what's going in to my '97 but they have 5 colors in all to choose from.

If you compare specs, the Mach unit just doesn't have it.

Remember, this is the same company that made all the defective factory HUs ( display problems ).

I like my set up, you can read the track from the screen and play the MP3 through the Head Unit. Plus having DVD in the X is fun to.

i appreciate the help guys. i've heard a lot about the kd-sh99 (or whatever # it is) the older one from jvc. But it is older now so i'm looking at pioneer. my dad has a pioneer that just plays reg cd's in his '95 turbo eclipse, and it blows me away. the sound is incredible even with the factory speakers. what do you guys think is the best pioneer model for under $400? Once again i appreciate, i cant believe the response i'm getting in just a few hours. thanks!
