Well guys i finally had to break down last weekend and change upper and lower intake manifold gaskets the coolant side was leaking on the front right. hey she only has 208,000 miles and still runs strong. Ever since then I have been fighting a CEL I get 124 tp voltage was lower than expected and 214 error in cylinder both in KOEO and 116 coolant temp sensor out of range KOER. I'm sure this is just because I didn't quite get it warmed up prior to doing the paperclip test. My question is what is the most common cause for these codes? I am thinking my tps might be going bad and I have been having a lope at idle which I think might be an air leak on the air tube connection to the throttle body as the gasket is pretty worn out. I'm just looking for any input from you guys as to where to go from here with it. I tried a search first but there's so much info on here I thought it would be better to just ask.

Update after changing the TPS which did have a mid range flat spot in it. I'm still throwing a 214. With that being said I guess I'm going to have to replace the cam position sensor I just cant quite get over the sticker shock of 184.99 for a rebuilt one. I also was quoted a price of 64.99 for just the sensor but wondering if the reason they sell rebuilds is because the lower end eventually wears out? Should I just replace the sensor? Should I replace the whole unit? Ahh the possibilities and scenarios that are running through my head.

If I am thinking right, this is a solid state sensor, so I guess I would do some basic stuff like reseat the connector. It's in a terrible spot, I have felt where it is on my engine, but can't get a look at it. But, if I could, I might make some witness marks and take the top off... it might be an optical sensor, in which case, it may just be dirty. If it's a magnetic sensor, maybe there is some rust or junk in there. Lots of maybe, but I know I don't have $180 to spend on a sensor today. Plus, you need a special tool to install it... another $40 or so.

Thats my thinking as well 180.00 is a steep price. You can index it without the other special tools other than a volt meter which I do own as I work in HVAC. I have read how on here and a couple of other places. I just returned home from a ride along job interview yes thats just how some hvac companies do things, and am in the process of debating on how I want to go about it. I have called a few bone yards around here and even they don't want to sell just a sensor. I think I'm just going to make sure the plug is seated all the way I could have accidently knocked it loose while changing the gaskets, but my thinking is it's probably just worn out. I did have a slight lope or miss at idle while in drive at a stop light before the gaskets finally gave up the ghost. but never had a CEL prior.

I was thinking about that earlier... I just don't see this thing coincidently failing when you were doing work in the area. I think something got twisted bumped, maybe there's an intermittent connection in the area. I don't have documentation with me, but it looks like it's only 2 wires... can't be that complicated.

Sorry so late with an update on this I found that the connectore was broken going into the sensor and thought yay this should be a no brainer replace just the sensor right???? well it did not work out quite that way. I took the old sensor off and went to every parts store open on a sunday here in town and most did not carry it and if they did have one close it was for a 95 and up which doesn't even fit a 94. So for now I have temporarily repaired the wires by insulating them and building an epoxy sleeve for em to ride in til I can find a good sensor. I have not been back to napa as money has gotten a bit tight but should be able to afford a new one next week.
