I have a 1997 Ford Explorer XLT, V6 SOHC. Has 35,500 miles.
My check engine light(CEL) is on and I have the following fault codes - P0301, P0302 and P0303; which are cylinder 1, 2, and 3 misfires, respectively.
I replaced the spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel filter and the air filter.
Will the CEL automatically turn off or do I need to clear the fault codes and reset the CEL?
If I need to reset the CEL and clear the fault codes to see if my repairs were effective, can I reset the CEL and clear the fault codes myself?
I have the OBDII system.
Thanks.

Pull the negative cable off the battery for a little while, say 10 minutes or so. This should reset the CEL, and send the faults into memory, or whatever. After that, start her up and take her for a test. If your plug/wire swap didn't fix it, the CEL will come back on.

Good Luck!

Welcome Aboard!!! :D

It worked.

I finally tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it. The CEL no longer stays on.

Thanks for the help.
