Hello,

I just performed a KOEO test.

I''m just curious if anyone has had theses codes before what EXACTLY IT WAS THAT YOU REPLACED.

Going by http://www.dalidesign.com/hbook/3digit.html the CEL code 335 is: the EGR feedback signal is/was out of range; and the memory code 332 (after the long period and a single flash then another long period) means EGR did not open/respond during test or if memory code, did not open intermittantly.

I am just curious becuase this will be the first official engine part that will be replaced (besides the obvious oil, plugs and wires, filters etc...) on our famiy's 94 exploder (as we call it - it was a drag race car one weekend and the name stuck). The X has 253 x.. original kilometers on it (~ 158 x.. miles).

To the best of your knowledge, where is the best place to buy a complete EGR valve if, that is what I MUST do to remedy this problem.

NOTE: this car runs rought at idle when first starting warm. Almost like it's not on all it's cylinders or it's about to die, if you poke the gas it eventually seems to 'figure itself out". One more thing: the light comes on and goes off at what seems like random intervals.

Hasn't anyone done something, when they received the EGR codes??

Are there any inline fueses, wireing, tubes etc, that normally become suspect? or the EGR Itself?? Can this be revived or just replace?? Have you guys got any pics??

1st a clarification: The 335 before the separator pulse would be called a Key On Engine Off (KOEO) code. At the start of the self-test, the computer performs a KOEO test of many of the sensors/solenoids and checks to make sure all the baseline signals are normal. If any of the sensors are giving erroneous data, a KOEO code is set and output. Because KOEO codes are set with the engine off, they almost always have to be electrical in nature. The EGR sensor on these seems to be a common cause of these codes. Those that have dissected their EGR sensor report that it gets corroded out inside. If I had a KOEO EGR code come up, here's how I would approach it:
1) Check wiring between computer and EGR sensor. Make sure there are no breaks or shorts
2) Check Vref at EGR sensor. Should be a steady 5.0 V
3) If Vref is good, then check EGR sensor output. Not certain of specs on the 4.0, but it should output something between 0-5 V, and shouldn't be too close to either 0 or 5 V (if that makes sense).
Based on other's experiences, I expect you'll find the problem by this point, and probably end up replacing the EGR sensor.
for more information search this board for "DPFE" or similar terms. This is a fairly common failure on these vehicles, and gets discussed all the time.

I'll check conections, then the sensor, then the EGR itself.
