at one Point I had 5 or six CEL Codes
P0171 and 174
1151 and 1152
and 1131. Upon checking vacuum hoses and what not, removing the pcv valve and cleaning it. I have one code

p1130 and again am at a loss.....also....is there supposed to be fuel in the PCV valve? That is what it smelled like anyway. Thanks.

Phred, P1130 is a manufacturer specific "Front main O2 sensor signal change too small".

This is a weird one. I'd clear it and see if it returns, or one of the other lean codes replaces it. It could mean nothing, or possibly one of the upstream sensors is going bad.....?

If you have a strong odor of gas in the PCV, it could be a sign of the engine running rich to compensate for a lean condition showing on the O2 sensors. This in turn could be from a manifold leak, since it's lean on both banks.

Regardless, I'd clear it, and see what code(s) return.

New Codes or Not, Updated Info

I got a code reader, although I am not to sure I like it I may spend more to get one that logs more data...but it pulled all the previous codes I thought were gone.....I am losing faith in the reader at AutoZone.

It didn't pull the code that had me replace the DPFE sensor...but thats about it...... I wonder if the EGR code is new and that may be where the air/fuel metering problem is coming from.

Problem 1 P0402 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Excessive Detecte
Problem 2 P1130 Unknown Powertrain DTC (Manufacturer Controlled; Fuel and Air Metering
Problem 3 P1131 Unknown Powertrain DTC (Manufacturer Controlled; Fuel and Air Metering)
Problem 4 P1150 Unknown Powertrain DTC (Manufacturer Controlled; Fuel and Air Metering)
Problem 5 P1151 Unknown Powertrain DTC (Manufacturer Controlled; Fuel and Air Metering)
Problem 6 P0171 System Too Lean (Bank 1)
Problem 7 P0174 System Too Lean (Bank 2)

Code Reader Suggestions?

That I used the reader to clear the CEL so now I hope to get an accurate reading. I may take this reader (CarChip) back to Sears and either get the ACtron scanner they have or go get one they have at walmart.....*shrug* any suggestions are always welcome

New Codes Now

p0171 again

p0174 again

p0300 (new)

p0316(new)

along with p0402/p1130/p1131/p1150/p1151 from yesterday

This is the only other information the code reader is giving me with any of these codes.

Damn it looks like you have quite a mess on your hands.

The first thing I would attack is the P0402 EGR Flow excessive detected. If the EGR flow is WAY too excessive, I could see that causing the P0300 (Multiple cylinder misfire) code, and the system too lean codes (P0171 and P0174). Try removing the EGR valve and DPFE, inspecting them carefully, and replacing if necessary. I had the same code on my Mountaineer and it was caused by a sticky DPFE. I would replace that anyway as preventive maintenance.

Whatever the problem is, your engine seems to be running way too lean. The P1130, 1131, 1150, and 1151 indicate that both the O2 sensors and fuel trims are at the lean limit, meaning that the ECU has increased the fuel delivery as much as it can, and the engine is still running lean.

Now it's only shooting out the 0171 and 0174 codes

and it's given me these readings on bank 1

I replaced the DPFE SEnsor just a couple weeks ago, so I was wondering if that code hadn't cleared the PCM memory or if my EGR valve was going bad. Also when I took my IAC off to clean it It didn't look like any pictures Ive seen....the Spring or what not that is supposed to come up the top part of the valve, wasn't. It almost looked like the device was stuck. But I am not getting any IAC codes yet.

If I had to guess on this one, I'd say it was leaking intake manifold gaskets. Along with possibly a sticking (open) EGR valve. When you solve the original problem, many of the other codes will disappear.

If the idle is within specs, then the IAC is OK. It wouldn't affect any of the other codes.

Idle sucks

Actually, It sputters then surges when sitting at a light like the engine feels like hopping out of the truck to go chase a quart of penzoil or something......I'm going to hunt down a gasket kit tomorrow along with some spark plugs and wires....and pray...that they do the trick....while I am at it I will probably take a look at the EGR and give it a cleaning or somethin.

Thanks for the input.

Good plan of attack.
Keep us informed.

Done all but Intake Manifold Gaskets have 1 Question

I've seen on different auto parts sites two different versions of what they look like.....solid piece with holes...then O-Rings...are these indeed two different Items both of which I need?

Yes, one set is for the lower manifold, other for the upper. I think it's the
O-ring set that leaks, probably from warping of the phenolic manifold???

I'm not that familiar with the SOHC engine, but you may need a set of valve cover gaskets too.

Aloha, Mark

PS..........you said:
Also when I took my IAC off to clean it It didn't look like any pictures Ive seen....the Spring or what not that is supposed to come up the top part of the valve, wasn't. It almost looked like the device was stuck. But I am not getting any IAC codes yet.

And you noted: "Idle sucks "

Maybe one part won't fix everything but......I think your found something there.

And, there is a TSB on the P0171, P0174 code

Well upon dismantling the engine compartment

I mean the process of removing the intake manifold......I discovered the underside of the Larger elbow(from PCV to Intake) to be like a sponge....kind of moist and full of holes......and I sat there for a while thinking to myself.....dear god if it was just this issue and not the O-Rings.....so I was wondering if I should just go ahead and replace them(I haven't pulled it off yet) or not. I just bought some hose to replace the bad part.......I'll clean the IAC again, TB and EGR valve........is the PCV valve supposed to have a grommet?(it doesn't).
