The center console/arm rest has started to vibrate when driving across rough pavement or gravel and it is driving me nuts. I cannot see any screws or bolts to tighten. Does anyone else have this problem? And if so, how do I tighten the console so that it doesent vibrate/shake when Im driving. Thanks for your inputs...

I don't know if this will help, but I have a 2K1 and when I had the rear heat/ac motor on, it sounded like someone was taking a hammer drill to the underside of the armrest. I took it in and they fixed it. Don't know what they did as I still have the same armrest, and I couldn't read the code on the invoice. So, if you're under waranty (since you have a 2K, maybe?), take it in.

Also, check to see what's in there. You could have a penny or something in the very bottom of it making all the racket.

Hope it helps!

I have the same problem with my 'high-series' console. I took the entire thing apart and put it back together (MAJOR PITA) and still rattles some.

If you find a fix, let me know.

I had the same problem with mine until I traded for a console from a newer one. I beleive what made mine rattle was the springs from underneath.

Ford issued a technical service bulletin for the '97/'98 Explorers with vibrating "high-series" consoles. The fix is to install a bracket that bolts to the floor pan underneith. I had mine done shortly after I bought it new in '97 when my CD changer started skipping like crazy. Look for a TSB with the words "CD player skips on high series console".

Found the TSB number: 97-26-21 Now to see what I can find out at the dealership.
