I purchaged a valve body for my 2000 explorer, 5r55e.. It will be here thursday, my question is do I need anything else besides new filter and fluid? I hope it fixes the 2-3 flare. The O.D. light as recently started flashing and if its going up a incline it stumbles untill you mash the gas harder, Does this sound like a valvebody issue? Does anyone have more advice on what else should be done while Im doing the valvebody change? Thanks in Advance..

I'm curious to hear about this as well - planning the same thing.

From what I gather, it's a perfect time to do D-rings on the lo/reverse servo and also externally check band tension + replace the two band tension lock-nuts.

I'm in the same position. 2000 explorer 5r55e, started with 2-3 flare then started getting the flashing OD light. When that happened it sees like it would start of from 2nd or third gear.

I have already pulled my valve body and am thinking of rebuilding it but I'm curious as to the price you paid for a rebuilt one.

Have you replaced yours?

Did it cure the problem?

Thank you,

Brian

Brian, if I recall i paid 240ish and recieved it in 2 days from oklahoma.. As soon as i dropped my old one down I seen that the gaskets were blew out around the sensors and the reverse servo. But to answer your question... YES it worked perfectly, drives like a brand new one.. Keep in mind you will lose alot of fluid so make sure you get it back up there.. Thanks and good luck...

How much fluid did you lose when you pulled the valve body?

I know to change the pan filter you need about 4 qt of fluid.. When you pull the valvebody, how much more comes out of the transmission?

Or how much did it take to fill the tranny back up after the vb change?

I am about to order a vb from Central Valve Bodies and need to have enough fluid on hand when I pull the old vb off the truck...

Thanks...

Ranger7ltr, Yes it takes like3.9 qts for the filter change, and when the VB comes down you will lose more.. IT drips and drips, so I would buy around 6 or 7 qts to be on the safe side.. I lost track of how many I actually put back in but it was a bunch...... good luck...

Brian, I have a 2000 5r55e in November I purchased a Valve body from Central opened up the pan and found my trans was terminal and replaced the trans. I have a brand new never installed Central Body for your trans I'd be wiiling to sell for $175.00 including shipping if you're interested.

Thanks for the information...I was thinking that most of the fluid inside would drain out except the torque convertor of course... This helps me make sure I have enough fluid on hand to complete the job...
