I am looking to get a 2020 Explorer. My last Explorer was a 1993. However, the decision is between the ST and Platinum. I have my reasons for each and will make the determination soon. However, if I do choose the Platinum, I am not fond of all the satin exterior finishes. So, in order to reduce some of it I am looking to replace the grille with the ST grille. I have a couple of question on the feasibility of doing this. First, are the grilles compatible? They look to be identical other than pattern and color schemes. Second, if I can put the ST grille on the Platinum, is the ST logo removable? I would not want to falsely represent that I had the lesser of the 3.0L V6 engines. And, third, how difficult is the grille removal? I had read in another thread it requires removal of the bumper. Is that true? I appreciate everyones feedback.

The should be completely compatible, there is a lot of wiring in there since both have front facing cameras and the lens washer up front.

Welcome to the Forum.
Looking at the parts site AutoNation) it seems that the on;y differences in the grille part numbers are the last 2 letters. I'm guessing those identify the trim that they go on. It would appear that they are otherwise the same. As for the ST logo, I don't believe it is removable and is part of the 'casting'. I believe I asked the question some time ago but am not able to find it. I'm sure I'll be corrected if the info is incorrect. I believe the Interceptors have a black grille but I'm not particularly fond of their appearance. Ft Worth TX PIU's at Dana Safety supply install center
Another option is to have it plast-dipped but members mention it would be prone to chipping.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. Regarding TBill’s comment, the camera and washer are separate components from the grille. So, that should not be a problem. But, my concern lies with what complexity may exist in removing/replacing the grille. I heard someone mention that the front bumper cover may have to come off. That’s a lot of work. Regarding the aftermarket grilles, they do look pretty cool. But, the problem is that those do not align to the models with forward facing cameras (thus, the reason they would fit the base, XLT, and Limited). I appreciate all the feedback and guidance.

What was driving my thoughts on this was determining between the ST and the Platinum models. The ST has the sport tuned suspension. I drive the Edge Sport today. It is a bit jarring when going over expansion joints and other road imperfections. So, getting into the Platinum might result in a slightly less aggressive suspension and absorb the bumps better. I know that the Platinum 3.0L is detuned. But, it is a pretty snappy engine, none-the-less.
