I changed my trans. fluid last week and now when truck is cold, it slips. I didn't do a completed flush, just the standard 4 qts. I have the 5 speed auto. I also changed the filter. I used synthetic. Fluid level is right where it is suppose to be. Anyone have any ideas?

Is it possible that when you put on the new filter you cut an o-ring?

make sure the filter is seated

and the o-rings must be sealing properly or else you'll get air in there which leads to slippage. I have only basic tranny knowledge but I'm pretty sure that's the problem...

how many miles has it been since the last time you changed it? I have heard that if you havent changed the tranny fluid in over 70000 miles its better to leave it alone b/c it can cause slipping. That does sound kinda of strange though...

When you say you used synthetic, did you use Mobil 1 ATF? I don't think theirs meets Mercon V specs, the only synthetic ATF that I know of that does is Amsoil.

I recently purchased the truck so I don't know the last time it was changed. I used AAmmco syntheic with is Mercon V. I'll check the filter and orings once it warms up.

If it is the O rings you could do some damage in that time. Add an extra 1/2 quart and see if that improves it. A little extra fluid won't hurt anything in the cold months, sucking air and having the clutches slip will. Suggest you also tighten the valve body bolts when you drop the pan again.

did you put the right amount of fluid in. it sounds as if the fluid is just low

Once after changing the filter I noticed the same thing. I found that the filter design was different and the bolt that held the filter on needed a large washer to keep it tight. Put on the washer and all was right & tight w/no slippage.
