I replaced my left front hub yesterday on my '05 Mountaineer. I get it all back together, take it for a test drive and something's not right. Something is rubbing and just not right. The vehicle seems to lurch at times. I didn't go any faster than idle down my street, turned around and pulled back into my driveway and put it back up on jackstands.

I can't figure it out. Everything is tight. I pulled the calipers off, the rotor, and put it all back on again. I did NOT pull the hub and put it back on, but I guess I have to now. But everything is tight, nothing is rubbing when I turn the wheel when it's up in the air. It seems fine. Also, it seems all right when the vehicle is in reverse, I hear no noise then. I bought these hubs per this thread.

Is is possible I didn't get the hub and axle to mesh correctly? I don't see how I could have screwed that up, but something's not right. Any ideas? :(

ABS light on?

Is the sound as bad as it was before you changed the hub?(meaning maybe you changed the wrong one?) I did this and then changed the other one, all good now;)

Is this hub a Timken one?

I replaced both with Timken hubs and they sound a lot!! Sometimes I wonder if something else is wrong in the front axle, but the I turn left or right, and the bearing sound is unbelievable (for a new hub anyway).

What's the best hub brand?

Let it be known that bad rear bearings quite often sound just like bad front bearings. I mean really, they can fool you bad. check out them rears before calling new fronts bad.

The sound is worst than before. Like something is rubbing or clunking. Badly. :(

I gave up (after taking it apart and back together three total times!) and had my mechanic I use occasionally take a look at it and he seems to think the ABS is screwed up somehow... :(

Well did you have an ABS light on while it was happening? Apparently there has been a rash of bad sensors on new hubs. You can read about them on some other threads. Maybe bad from handling I don't know. You should try swapping your old ABS sensors onto the new hubs and give that a try.

No ABS light when it was happening. I'll keep you guys posted on what I find out...

Well, it was a bad bearing from the start. For some reason the ABS was coming on, etc. Have to send it back and get another one. F me...
