I have seen in the engine diagram where the air cleaner is, but how do I open it up so I can change the air filter?

Should be a easy thing, but I must be doing something wrong.......

I know this sounds bad, but I've usually had this done when I get the oil changed, but I thought I'd do it myself.

I've never had this many problems getting to the air filter......

well if you have a 92 i believe theres a couple metal clamps that you lift up then just pull the top of the air box back and it should come off.

I took a picture of the airbox...I don't see any clamps.......

wow thats a big picture! its kinda hard to see its so bog. is there any bolts visible on the top of the air filter box? try taking them out and see if the top comes off. i had a 92 explorer, but i can't quite remember what it looked like. i took it out and put a cone style air filter in.

There should be two - three clamps and two screws that you will remove. the screws are by the intake tube. just be sure not to drop the part that goes in the underneath of the box from the screws. its a PITA.

Thanks!

My bad there are no clams I was thinking of two different cars that I've worked on. There are just the screws take them out and you'll be good. It is a pain though you have been warned.
