While shopping for a new battery at the Autozone website, the following note was attached to the description of the battery I want: "Caution do not use a memory saver on this vehicle".

Why would they mention this? Last month I changed the battery on my son's 2009 Chevy Malibu without using a memory saver and the car still cannot pass state inspection because all of the OBDII monitors have not reset. I planned to hook up a battery charger to the terminals when the battery was out of the Explorer to avoid this problem. Will I have a problem?

a memory saver is usually just a 9 volt battery used to keep radio pre-sets and memory seat settings, and the like, while the vehicle's battery is disconnected. it usually is just plugged into the lighter socket. i don't know why AZ's instructions say not to use one. it must have caused some sort of problem, so don't do it.
