Hi!

The right gauges (speed, oil and charging) in my Explorer have gone dark! The gauges works but there is no light on them.

How hard is it to change the light "bulbs"?
Anyone how has a good step-by-step instruction?

Best regards

I did it from a post on here a few months back. Its not as hard as it looks. Just make sure you have the proper number of bulbs that you need to replace the burnt out ones.

You have to take several trim pieces of the dashboard apart before you can actually remove the gauge cluster. Take your time you do not want to break any of these trim pieces.

I thought the dash replacement thread was pinned as it may well be but if its not do a search. Could also be under white gauge face upgrade

yea, kinda easy to do but timestaking

follow Dead Link Removed to tear apart your dash. you only have to go to like step 14. I think i read somewhere that you use bulb #194. the whole process should take you no longer than 1 1/2 hours start to finish. GOOD LUCK & HAVE FUN.

edit: I personally would change out all of the lights at the same time so you dont have to do this same task in 1 month. and so it doesn't look brighter that all the other gauges.

I just changed mine a couple of months ago and strongly recommend changing all of the bulbs while you have everything broken apart. If memory serves me correctly there's six bulbs to change. The process is actually very easy.

They now make LED replacements for the 194 bulbs. I've never used them, but I remember reading a thread about somebody complaining that they were dim compared to the regular 194 bulbs (because he used blue LEDs). Only use white LEDs if you decide to do this.

So who sells the white LED 194 bulbs? A pic would be great!
