Changing Tranny Fluid

I have 40,000 miles on my truck and my manual that it came with says change transmisson fluid at 30,000 miles. I want to change it but not sure how. I have a Haynes Manual that shows me how but is this hard and is there anything i need to know before doing it. Also what fluid should i put in there. I have heard Royal Purple but not sure. I was hoping Mobil 1 had a tranny fluid then i could have Full Synthetic all around. Thanks in advance.

By all means change it right away. I recommend a complete flush for the change, Synthetic is the way to go. I use Mobile 1.
