i got a loud howling sound coming from my front left wheel area, the tires or even and balanced. my dad says it sounds like a bad wheel bearing.
any info on replacing one?

dont know about a 98 but i know 1st gens are easy to change with the right tools. PITA without the right tools

ok, what are the right tools?

Wheel bearings on the newer models with IFS are relatively easy. Rather than me trying to explain I suggest taking a look in your haynes manual. Mine describes the process.

Ours are a bit easier than the first gens, cause it is all one sealed hub unit that just slips in rather than bearings to pack. The downfall is that it is a disposable part that will run you between 200 and 250 per side.

wow thats a pricy part. ill just let it howl a bit longer, not to anoying yet.

make sure you dont go too long or it may seize completly while your driving and then u will find urself needing new pants and possibly a new drivers seat as well.
