Hi there I have a 2.0 2014 explorer with severe charging issues
I had replaced the battery 3 times and the alternator 3 times
One alternator was used OEM and the other 2 were new remans..
I keep opening forscan and am getting this generator fault code plus circuit f high resistance in generator PCM or battery it keeps popping up I check every harness every ground there is continuity and no resistance on any of the fuses (125-300amp)
Please someone help this issue hasn't been letting me sleep.
This Wednesday I'm getting another lkq used alternator for warranty replacement I'm not sure the state it's in but this issue has been rampant I check the alternator harness the PCM for continuity in between said harness and even checked a few grounds.
This issue has been happening since way long ago but when it first started it started with a battery light at first went away for a few months until bam my vehicle isn't starting anymore so I changed out the battery and warranty it 3 times
In the process of that I replaced my alternator 3 times it's rather easy unlike the focus so I can knock out the job in 20 minutes with basic hand tools.
Has anyone had this issue someone please for the love of God please help me

Did you go in and change any settings? Why is there a code p160a set? That is a mismatch is your program.

That's from the tire size change on forscan but even then this issue happened before that code was up.
The thing is I didn't change the as built just changed the tire size on the actual menu itself I forgot witch one.. but yea this issue has been persistent.
I'm getting a used OEM from lkq tomorrow hopefully that helps also requiring the alternator harness

That happened because the tire size change on forscan I made.

Were all the 3 alternators all Ford products? It has been mentioned here many times that only genuine Ford alternators seem to work properly with this generation. Did you check to see if they were providing a full voltage charge at the battery with the engine running?

Hello there I checked and with those three alternators were giving me the most horrible luck
Unfortunately the first alternator I got from LKQ was seized up and I freed it up somehow.
Then I got two other alternators remans(ultima from O'Reilly's)
The first one reman in Mexico had a chewed up regulator
The second one reman from china same brand seemed like it had all new parts including the rectifier and the voltage regulator and brush assembly.
So still no luck except that last one I installed worked for about 3 hours until it gave me the check charging system light.
Also my PIDS on forscan showed me a gen fault (Yes).
^chinese ultima alternator^
So I was waiting for my warranty replacement from lkq and took yet another loss! Both alternators were seized none the less never again will I buy used parts from lkq.
I'm gonna order a OEM brand new motorcraft alternator specifically the GL8979 alternator, and I'm also replacing the alternator harness.
Hopefully after all that is done said problem will go away.
My vehicle has been broken down for about 2 weeks now so I took advantage of the time and left my battery disconnected on a float charger so when I do this job hopefully everything goes and is at 100%

Thankyou kindly for reading this post as well and providing insight I might also make a video on how to do this procedure because everyone tells me it's a 8hour plus job and you have to remove the motor mounts. Spoiler alert you don't.
It's a 2.0T explorer I have engine space like no other... Luckily this is on a explorer I heard the edge was also a nightmare to work on space wise.

Also the voltage was irregular to answer you're question except that last ultima Chinese reman alternator that lasted for about 3 hours.
Weird thing about that one was the battery state of charge was immediately rising as of the alternator was working.
My gen desired voltage was like at 14.1 volts sometimes 13.6
And the battery voltage at the terminals infered pid was showing me 13.5-6/14.1
After that is when everything started failing also I did a drop test on the cables everything is fine.
I also got an oscilloscope to diagnose the PCM after I get the new alternator in case anything's happening. I doubt it's the PCM and it was just the fact that I put two aftermarket alternators and one used alternator from lkq.

If you haven't ordered yet, Levittown Ford is a forum vendor and offers members a 50% discount on shipping. Their prices are much less than Ford's.
Benny has been a great help to several members. Good luck.

Update as of July 2024
The issue has not been resolved I already installed 5 different alternators the last being brand new oem 4 battery's as well and still no luck I'm tired of this issue....
Someone please help I also verified the PCM is sending out a PWM signal it is I check with an oscilloscope I also replaced the c102a connector on the alternator.
What the hell is going on

What was the fix? :dunno: I see the thread title was changed to "Solved" but there is nothing here indicating what was done to resolve the issue?

Peter
