Charging System indicator

My warning system periodically indicates "check charging system" on my 07 4.2L V8. I had the alternator bench checked at a local parts store, but with several attempts they cannot get it to display a failed test.

I recognize that the alternator works (at least most of the time because the battery stays charged) and might just periodically fail (diode stuck open?). I'd hate to replace the alternator just to find that the system indicator is actually triggered by some other component.

Has anyone had similar symptoms and found a different cause of the problem?

Right after my engine died rolling to a stop the "check charging system" signal came on in my 2007 4.6 V-8 ST.

My check charging system light came on erradically for about a month or so before my alternator went out so be ready!

And Z06CADY I would try taking it to the dealership and see if it needs a Re-Flash, this was another problem I had with my explorer when I first bought it. It would always be while slowing down or going up a hill and would randomly die, then fire back up.

mine just flashed today. not to happy about having to spend more money on this thing.
