2007 ford sport trac
Hello,

Anybody have their charging system light come on? I have a 2007 sport trac in which I replaced the alternator, belt and battery. It is still difficult to start and sometimes stops running altogether. Anyone with similar problems, solutions?

Thanks,
Dutch

My 08 had the charging light come on just as I was leaving the house. I stopped, restarted, and it happened again immediately. I went back home and checked voltages, the battery was 12.8 with the engine off, and when I started the engine the voltage dropped to 11.9.

I cleaned all the contacts/connections and tried again, no change. I then took the alternator to the local Auto Zone to order a new one, and the clerk there insisted on testing the old one first. Of course, when he put it on the tester, it worked perfectly putting out a steady 14.6 volts.

I reinstalled the alternator and it has worked perfectly since that day (about 18 months ago). I have absolutely no idea what was wrong or what caused it. None of the wiring or connectors were dirty or corroded, and no fuses were blown. Everything was fine. I have to assume there was a bad connection somewhere and whatever I did apparently cleaned it up enough to work properly, but I am completely stymied as to what happened.

I hope yours is as easy to repair as mine was.
